Heavy snowfall in Mongolia after 49 years, more than 80 percent of the country covered with snow



Ulaanbaatar. Mongolia has experienced record snowfall this winter, the heaviest since 1975. The country’s National Meteorological and Environmental Monitoring Agency gave this information on Tuesday. The agency said in a statement that the average snowfall in the Asian country so far this winter has reached 9.6 mm.

Nearly all provinces of Mongolia have experienced extreme weather this winter with heavy snowfall and frequent snowstorms, with more than 80 percent of the country covered in snow, according to the agency.

The number of animal deaths due to weather this winter in Mongolia has risen to 667,841 as of Monday. Mongolia, a nomadic country, has a harsh continental climate, with frequent high winds, snow and dust storms.
