Russia: Mi-8 helicopter crashes in lake during training, rescue workers engaged in rescue operation



Moscow. A Russian Mi-8 helicopter crashed during training on Monday over Lake Onega in the Republic of Karelia. The helicopter of the Northwest Aviation and Rescue Center of the Ministry of Emergency Situations (EMERCOM) was conducting search and rescue operations over the lake.

EMERCOM said the wreckage of the helicopter was found at a depth of 50 meters 11 km from the coast. Rescue workers are engaged in rescue operations using hovercraft and snowmobiles. According to the ministry, the helicopter was operated by an experienced crew.
