India officially launched the Unified Payment Interface (UPI) in France on Friday. With this, France has also become one of those countries where UPI can be used for transactions. NPCI International Payments Limited (NIPL) has partnered with French company Lyra to provide UPI services in France. With the launch in France, this Indian payments service now reaches more than 17 countries around the world.

UPI services were also launched in France on Friday. An agreement was signed between India and France in July last year to start this facility. To provide this facility in France, a partnership has been made with French company Lyra. UPI services were launched in France on Friday evening in the presence of Union External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar.

UPI has been launched in these countries

Bhutan is the first country to launch UPI. Since then many countries have joined this list. So far the service has been launched in Singapore, UAE, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Oman, Malaysia, Thailand, Philippines, Vietnam, Cambodia, Hong Kong, Taiwan, South Korea, UK, Japan, Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg and Switzerland. It is being run in collaboration with local partners in different countries. France is the 18th country where this service has been started.
