Trinamool said on MNREGA raids – an attempt to divert attention

Kolkata, 06 February (HS). Trinamool Congress has termed the Enforcement Directorate (ED) raid in West Bengal in the case of embezzlement of central funds by making fake job cards in MNREGA as politics of vengeance.

The party has said that the raid was a desperate move by the Bharatiya Janata Party to divert attention from the party’s ongoing strike demanding payment of state dues. The ED on Tuesday morning launched simultaneous raids at multiple locations, including the residences of some officials in West Bengal, in connection with its investigation into alleged manipulation in the allocation of MNREGA funds, officials said. On this, senior Trinamool leader Shashi Panja stressed, “This is an attempt to divert the attention of the public and media from the ongoing strike by Trinamool demanding payment of state dues. This is a clear example of vendetta politics.”

However, the West Bengal unit of BJP rejected these allegations as baseless. BJP leader Samik Bhattacharya said, “The reality is that Trinamool is deeply immersed in corruption and almost every leader of the party is facing corruption charges.”

Central agencies have arrested senior Trinamool leaders like Partha Chatterjee, Jyotipriya Mallick and Anubrata Mandal in separate corruption cases.
