New Delhi: The Enforcement Directorate in West Bengal has taken action in connection with the investigation into alleged embezzlement of MNREGA funds. ED is raiding many areas here. According to a news agency, the places where raids are being conducted include the Salt Lake area of 24 North Parganas. Here, the residence of a former Block Development Officer in IA Block has been raided. At present his house is being searched. Along with this, searches are also being conducted at the house and office of a businessman in Chinsurah of Hooghly district. The property of a state government employee in Baharampur in Murshidabad district is also being searched.

According to ED officials, the former Block Development Officer whose house was raided in Salt Lake area was posted in Dhaniakhali during his service. He claimed that the residence of the former BDO was being searched after evidence was found of his involvement in “irregularities”. Officials said that 25 lakh fake job cards were issued under MNREGA in the state. Raiding action is being taken regarding the same.
Let us tell you, there are continuous allegations of rigging regarding 100 days work (MNREGA) in West Bengal. Recently, the head of Gram Panchayat and TMC leader of Devtala in Malda was accused of misappropriation of Rs 5 crore of the project. A section of villagers had made a written complaint to the District Magistrate. According to administration sources, in the financial year 2019-20, 356 projects were taken up for 100 days of work in Devtala Gram Panchayat. These included cultivation of dragon fruit, cultivation of banana trees, construction of poultry shed. Local people claimed that the entire amount had been embezzled at that time without doing any work.
