Police said the 30-year-old Jewish student had gone with an acquaintance in Mitte, near Berlin, late Friday night, where he met a 23-year-old fellow university student. Police said the 23-year-old student is pro-Palestinian while the 30-year-old Jewish student shared a social media post in support of Israel and the issue led to a heated argument between the two.

According to police, the 23-year-old student, enraged by the argument, punched the 30-year-old Jewish student in the face until he fell to the ground. The suspect also kicked the Jewish student as he fell to the ground and fled the scene.

Police said the victim suffered facial fractures and was admitted to hospital but was out of danger. Police searched the suspect’s residence in Schöneberg, Berlin, and collected evidence, including his smartphone. The case is being investigated.
