Lal Krishna Advani – New Delhi Bharat Ratna, the country’s highest honour, will be given to BJP leader Lal Krishna Advani, the second after former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, at the age of 96. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called Mr Advani and congratulated him for this honour.

Will be the 50th celebrity to receive the honor

Veteran BJP leader LK Advani will be honored with Bharat Ratna at the age of 96. Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave this information on social media. He is the second BJP leader after former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who will be given the country’s highest civilian honour. Till now 49 people have been given Bharat Ratna. Advani is the 50th personality to receive this honour. Modi shared two pictures of himself with Advani on social media and congratulated him. He wrote- I am very happy to inform that Lal Krishna Advani will be honored with Bharat Ratna.

He started work from the grassroots level and reached the post of Deputy Prime Minister of the country. He was also the Home Minister and Information and Broadcasting Minister of the country. His parliamentary working style will always remain exemplary. Advani ji remained unwaveringly committed to transparency and integrity in public life for decades. He has set an exemplary standard in political ethics. He has made unprecedented efforts towards furthering national unity and cultural revival. Founder member of BJP, 7th Deputy Prime Minister

Advani was born on 8 November 1927 in Karachi. Between 2002 and 2004, he was the 7th Deputy Prime Minister in the government of Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Before this, he was the Home Minister in the NDA government between 1998 and 2004. He is among the founder members of BJP. Advani was the President of Delhi unit of Jan Sangh from 1970 to 1972. Was the National President of Jan Sangh from 1973 to 1977. From 1970 to 1989, he was a member of the Rajya Sabha four times. Meanwhile, in 1977 he was also the General Secretary of the Janata Party. From 1977 to 1979, he was the Minister of Information and Broadcasting in the Janata Party government led by Morarji Desai at the Centre. He was the National President of BJP from 1986-91 and 1993-98 and 2004-05. In 1989, he was elected MP from Delhi to the 9th Lok Sabha. From 1989-91 he was the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha. In 1991, 1998, 1999, 2004, 2009 and 2014, he was elected Lok Sabha MP from Gandhinagar. He was the Home Minister in the NDA government from 1998 to 2004. He was also the Deputy Prime Minister from 2002 to 2005 in the government of Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

Earlier in 2015, Advani was awarded the Padma Vibhushan, the country’s second highest civilian honour. In the same year, former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee was given the Bharat Ratna. The then President Pranab Mukherjee himself visited his house and he was given this honour. Vajpayee was then 90 years old and was unwell. Mukherjee deviated from protocol and presented the award to the former Prime Minister at his Krishna Menon Marg residence. Apart from Vajpayee, this year, eminent educationist and freedom fighter Mahamana Madan Mohan Malviya was given this honor posthumously. best regards….
