Importance of Mauni Amavasya
In Hindu religion, it is mentioned about Mauni Amavasya that observing a fast of silence on this day gives peace to the mind. Apart from this, taking bath in river Ganga on the day of Mauni Amavasya is considered auspicious. If you are not able to take bath in river Ganga then you can also take bath in any other holy river. You will also get special rewards for donating on this day. Fast is also observed on Mauni Amavasya to please Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu. On this date, one should take bath by applying sesame oil and donate sesame seeds to the poor.
One gets relief from Pitra Dosh
By observing ritual worship and fasting on Mauni Amavasya, the person gets freedom from Pitra Dosh. If a person has Pitradosh in his horoscope then this mantra must be chanted 108 times on Mauni Amavasya.
