PAK vs NZ: Pakistan team announced against New Zealand, Babar Azam is the captain and key player returns after 4 years


PCB has announced Pakistan’s squad for the five-match T20I series against New Zealand. According to the media release issued by PCB, Pakistan’s 17-member team was announced. Uncapped middle order batsman Muhammad Irfan Khan and opener Usman Khan got a place in the Pakistan team. The five-match T20I series against New Zealand will be played in Rawalpindi and Lahore from April 18 to April 27.

In fact, two talented players caught the attention of the selectors in Pakistan’s T20I series against New Zealand. Uncapped players Muhammad Irfan Khan and Usman Khan had performed brilliantly in the Pakistan Super League. Irfan Khan of Karachi Kings got the title of Emerging Player and Best Fielder after PSL 9. Irfan scored 171 runs in the Pakistan Super League.

21 year old Irfan has played a total of 34 T20 matches and scored 499 runs in his career so far. During this period his strike rate was 135. Irfan was a part of the ICC Under-19 World Cup 2020 and 2022 for Pakistan.

Return of Mohammad Aamir and Imad Wasim

Pakistan’s Mohammad Aamir and Imad Wasim have returned in the T20I series against New Zealand. Both these players took a U-turn from their retirement, so that they would be available for the T20 World Cup 2024.

Meanwhile, Haris Rauf, who was recently reinstated in Pakistan’s central contract list, failed to make the cut as he is recovering from a shoulder injury that forced him to leave the Pakistan Super League midway.
