Jaipur . BJP is making efforts to field local faces in the Rajya Sabha elections in Rajasthan. Sources said that BJP is considering a new strategy of fielding local faces instead of the old tradition of fielding any candidate from any state in the Rajya Sabha elections. The Election Commission has announced the date of Rajya Sabha elections in 15 states. Elections will be held on 56 seats, including three seats in Rajasthan. Voting for these seats will take place on February 27.
It is noteworthy that there are ten Rajya Sabha seats from Rajasthan, out of which six are with Congress and four with BJP. Voting will be held on three seats from Rajasthan represented by former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, Union Minister Bhupendra Yadav and Kirori Lal Meena, currently a minister in the Bhajan Lal government. The term of these seats is ending on 3 April. Kirori Lal Meena had won from Sawai Madhopur during the Rajasthan Assembly elections. After becoming MLA, he resigned from Rajya Sabha. Therefore, voting will take place on this seat also.
Of the six seats held by the Congress, only one MP is from Rajasthan, while five are from other states. Neeraj Dangi is from Rajasthan, while former PM Manmohan Singh, Pramod Tiwari, Mukul Wasnik, K.C. Venugopal, Randeep Surjewala are outsiders. Sources said that the top leadership of BJP is discussing fielding candidates from the same state for the Rajya Sabha elections. Sources said that if all the leaders give their consent to this proposal, then the policy of fielding some leaders of one state in the Rajya Sabha elections of another state will not be followed.
Top leaders of the state have been informed about this and discussions are going on as to which candidate will be fielded from which seat. Party sources said that former Leader of Opposition Rajendra Rathore and Deputy Leader of Opposition Satish Poonia, who lost the assembly elections, may be given a chance in these elections. Besides, veteran leaders Alka Gurjar and Om Mathur can also be sent to Delhi through these elections.
Fielding outside candidates on local seats has been a subject of debate for many years. Party leaders said that it is being said that outsiders going to Rajya Sabha elections are not aware of the issues of these states and hence they do not live up to the expectations of the local people in the long run, hence the strategy has been changed. .
